Local Transportation Options
Transportation From the Airport
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) is located approximately 20 miles south of the University of Washington and 15 miles south of Downtown Seattle. Below are some of the options that will easily get you to the University District and campus:
Link Light Rail
Seattle’s regional light rail system has stops at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), the University of Washington, and the U-District. From the airport follow signs the light rail, purchase an ORCA card (this card is good on county buses, light rail, street car, and Washington State ferries) and ride the line all the way to either the University of Washington Station or the U-District Station. The ride will take you about 45 minutes to get to campus. The Husky Union Building (HUB) is about a 13 minute walk from the University of Washington Station or the U-District Station.
Shuttle Express
Shuttle Express offers frequent operation between the airport and any Seattle destination you request. It is suggested for easy and direct transportation from the airport to the campus or hotels in the University District. You can reserve trips by calling (425) 981-7000 or you may also make your reservations online at www.shuttleexpress.com.
Advance reservations are required for a return trip to the airport 24 hours ahead of your desired pick up time. It is possible to book a round trip when you call for your first ride.
To find Shuttle Express: After you have collected your luggage, follow signs directing you to Ground Transportation which is located on the third floor of the parking garage. The 3rd floor is the same level as the baggage claim. To get to the garage, you must proceed up one floor via escalator or elevator and walk across the sky bridge. Once in the airport garage, take an escalator or elevator back down to 3rd floor. You will find the booth alongside the Sea-Tac Ground Transportation Information Center.

If you are a cyclist, campus and the U-District also has several Bike and Scooter Share companies.
From Hotels Downtown
There are several King County Metro buses and the Link Light Rail that will take you from a variety of places downtown to the U-District. The U-District and Husky Stadium Link Light Rail Station is about a 13-minute walk to the Husky Union Building (HUB).
ADA Accessibility Resources
Information for Visitors
The UW Seattle campus is deceptively steep, rising from Lake Washington on the east to an elevation of 224 feet at the northwest corner, a rise equal to an 18-story building. Spanning approximately 15 blocks north to south and 25 blocks east to west, the University encourages wheelchair users to consider using power-operated wheelchairs on campus.
Since the University is located on a sloping site, many of the pedestrian pathways have conditions that do not meet accessibility requirements for slope, duration, surface and rails. Please refer to the access guide for assistance with route planning. Individuals may need to experience a given route to determine if it is accessible for them.
Parking Information
- You must display a state-issued disability placard or plate on your vehicle at all times.
- You must pay for parking either by using one of the self-serve options or by stopping at the South or Central gatehouse. Please note that gatehouses do not accept cash and have limited hours.
- If you are using the PayByPhone app, you can enter either the specific lot location number, or the Universal Disability location number (123207).
- Disability parking spaces are available in all public lots, with the N22 lot near the Quad reserved for disability parking only. More information about parking rates and lot locations is available at the self-serve parking page.
- Only pay for the length of time that you are parking in a specific lot. If you move to a new lot, you will need to pay for the duration you are parking in the new lot.
